Re: Rear caliper sticking. « Reply #3 on: August 30, 2015, 12:15:16 pm ». Recently replaced oneof my rear calipers due to sticking etc. Genuine painted red caliper on ebay around £80. Not worth messing about with old one to be honest plus my mpg increased by quite alot once replaced due to the drag from that wheel. Logged.
I have a mk5 golf with a factory fitted sunroof which I have recently discovered no longer opens or closes by the overhead switch. I have removed the switch, pulled it apart and cleaned it internally but still no go. Have also checked the fuse which appears to be in tact.
The mk7 GTI is one of the most reliable platform Volkswagen has made. I just past 100k miles while on stage 2 and the only major issues are thermostat housing and one of the fuel injectors. Pretty common problems. Obviously maintenance will cost more slightly and u gotta stay on top of it
2 months late reply but its the ABS Control Unit without doubt, become a rather common problem and starting to have an impact on the trade values of the MK5 Golf. £1500 to fix, sometimes VW-UK
I am looking at getting an MK5 R32, Viewing one on saturday as was wondering what common problems they have/ things to be aware of. Looking for going for a 55 or 06 model as dont want to pay the tax. DSG would be great as coming from a manual MK5 gti.
The Golf GTI comes with a 50L fuel tank. Expect to pay around £60-65 for a full tank of unleaded, or closer to £70 for super unleaded. Real world MPG is mid to high 30s. Taking 33mpg as a low figure and using a 50L fuel tank, the calculated range is 435 miles which is a considerable drop from the 517 miles VW quote.

I tested the leads in block ‘A’ (front lighting) on the J519 (Vehicle Electronic System Control Module) and found very low voltage for the headlight. I’ve come to the conclusion the J519 has gone bad, at least at the ‘A’ block connector (did not test connection for rear lights but suspect the same result). The part number on my J519
Re: Oil pick up pipe. « Reply #2 on: November 15, 2017, 08:35:56 am ». You should never need to replace it. If it ever clogs it can be powerhosed clean and dipped in alcohol to clean it. I did mine at 100K miles and noted nothing at all in the sump. Depends on the quality and frequency of your oil changes. Logged.
Re: Electrical problems with my MK5 GTI ! « Reply #7 on: December 23, 2014, 10:57:04 pm » Charging the battery wont do much, if the alternator wont charge it then its game over, probably best to send a new battery in. Especially for the cold winter starts!!

Thing is I now want something new, and fancy the 9n3 GTI. The extra power appeals and the fact its relatively new (well newer than what i have now! I would like to know all the good bits and bad bits about this model before I purchase..ie: are there any common faults, problems I should be aware of. I know the 6n2 GTI had its fair share of
