I still have starting problems with some days it starts 1st time. I do not have problem cranking it, it fires then the revs drop straight away andn conks out. Thanks for your comments guys. I have still found little hard data, but some suggestion that a petrol engine needs more air & fuel than that to maintain idle, perhaps up to 3:1 turndown, or 33%, or 33kPa. If the fuel tank sender has a permanent open or closed connection or the measurements are completely out of range it will be defective. Another possibilty is a defective instrument cluster. The Focus MK2/MK2.5 instrument clusters are known to have problems caused by bad soldering connnections of the circuit board. Step 3. From the engine compartment, pull the accelerator linkage and briefly rev up the engine to 2000 or 3000 rpm. Watch the EGR valve diaphragm stem and make sure it moves as you operate the accelerator.
